Apply today to be part of a dynamic team dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.This is a temporary 12-month assignment.Where you’ll workThis role is based full-time in our Richmond office, with some flexibility to work from your home in B.C.How you’ll make a difference: You’ll guide strategies and combat risks to allow WorkSafeBC to best serve their employees.What you’ll do

  • Manage the day-to-day operation and administration of security services to ensure the protection of WorkSafeBC employees, visitors, physical property, and assets
  • Manage security employees and contract security staff and identify organizational changes required to maintain an efficient and effective security service
  • Act as a liaison with challenging clients on behalf of WorkSafeBC staff
  • Develop an understanding of the claims and prevention processes
  • Conduct threat risk assessments as it relates to workplace violence
  • Record incidents of a security or criminal nature and ensure they are investigated
  • Analyze historical data on incidents to identify trends and implement improvements and initiate preventive measures
  • Conduct regional office inspections to complete security audits, identify the security gaps, and develop consequential plans
  • Conduct internal presentations and training on aspects of corporate security and emergency management
  • Implement emergency response plans and procedures to ensure head office and area office action plans for evacuation procedures, communication techniques, supplies and ensure these plans are complete and current
  • Develop and maintain effective internal communication links with all operational areas to identify and discuss security hazards and upgrades, and liaise with building management, public safety professionals, and government bodies to improve security programs and services

  • Clearly and concisely presents information to various audiences
  • Proactively and collaboratively identifies the root cause of issues and developing solutions
  • Participates in a rotating on-call support to our Security Operations Centre and be prepared to respond to support critical incidents throughout the province
  • Enjoys occasional business travel and has a demonstrated willingness to undertake special projects or assignments

Your background and experience

  • A post-secondary degree in a related discipline such as criminology, security management or emergency management
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in a corporate security program development, with extensive knowledge of principles and techniques related to security operations, behavioral threat assessments, workplace violence prevention (WRA 2.1), and security investigations
  • Strong investigation and report writing skills, including for legal statements of fact
  • Strong security systems experience (e.g., access control and camera systems)
  • Communication, presentation, facilitation, and team-building skills
