Salary range: The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay at appointment. See the following table for the current salary scale for this position: https://www.ucop.edu/academic-personnel-programs/_files/2024-25/july-2024-scales/t15.pdf . A reasonable salary estimate for full-time Lecturer positions is $68,247–$89,047.

Percent time: Instruction for one course per semester typically starts at a minimum of 17% time.

Anticipated start: Positions for a single semester typically start August 1st for fall semester and January 1st for spring semester. Summer Sessions appointments begin at the start of the assigned session. Appointments may be renewable based on the Department’s needs, and on lecturer performance.

Position description

The Department of Architecture at UC Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified lecturers to teach non-studio courses in the following areas: Architectural History and Theory, Building Science, Structures, and Construction. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as need arises. The number of positions varies from semester to semester (fall, spring, and summer), depending upon the needs of the Architecture department.

General Duties: In addition to teaching responsibilities, general duties include holding office hours, assigning grades, advising students, preparing course materials (e.g., syllabus), attending appropriate meetings/orientations, and using Cal’s electronic resources for course management.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent international degree at time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

Masters in related discipline (or equivalent international degree) at time of hire.

For those who are not US citizens or permanent residents, a legal permit that allows work in the United States (such as a US visa that allows employment) is required by the start date of the position. The department is unable to provide a visa/work permit.

Preferred qualifications Two or more years of University or College teaching experience.

Three years of professional practice experience since degree.
