Course Description:

Study of the main theories of children’s learning, such as Behaviorism, Humanism, Cognitivism, Constructivism and the pedagogical processes and currents associated with them. Examination of indigenous perspectives on learning. Analysis of the impact of epistemological postures on the teacher’s role and pedagogical choices. Study of teaching practices, based on these different models, that promote student learning in the primary and junior divisions in a plural minority context.

Requirements:

A level of education/experience deemed equiv. may be substituted for the required education and/or experience. Master’s degree in education required; preference will be given to a doctorate in education related to the subject of the course; – At least one of : Recent full-time teaching experience in a school or school board administration, including two years of Ont. Curriculum implementation with a specialist qualification in elementary education, OR Current refereed research record in elementary education, OR Recent comprehensive examination (Ph. D) in elementary education; – Demonstrated knowledge of the Ontario context as it relates to elementary education; – Proven ability to apply the Ontario College of Teachers’ Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics; – The University may consider experience or qualifications equivalent to those listed above.
