Join us as a Lead Connections Engineer to be part of a team that’s driving forward the energy transition, creating a brighter, more sustainable future for all.Unleash your superpower and bring energy to life.National Grid is hiring a Lead Connections Engineer for our Customer Connections Team based in our Central region covering Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Anglia’s.About the roleAs a senior authorised engineer, you will lead the development and costing of connection offer proposals and feasibility studies for Customer related investments.You will lead a multi-disciplined investment team for a portfolio of customer investments for the GB Electricity Transmission System in support of the investment driver up to and including the handover to the EPC Project Manager. You will also undertake engineering works to ensure least cost, fit for purpose and safe delivery solutions are prepared in accordance with the initial phase of the Network Development Process that deliver the business’ regulatory, stakeholder and customer commitments.About youYou’ll need to be curious and tenacious in your approach with a genuine passion to contribute towards the delivery of projects that will be critical to the UK’s decarbonisation objectives. You will have an Engineering degree or relevant engineering/project management experience in the development or construction of infrastructure projects in utilities or a similar field. You’ll either have chartership or be working towards it with an institute such as the IET. You will have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK.We would also look for you to be able to demonstrate all or some of the following:Engineering and Design:

• Possesses skilled/expert level knowledge of civil/construction engineering principles.
• Demonstrates a technical knowledge and understanding of the electricity transmission system and assets.
• Skilled in electrical engineering principles, processes and network design, asset maintenance.

Customer/stakeholder Management:

• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with customers, stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the National Grid customer base and the connection process.
• Regularly seeks customer feedback to assess satisfaction levels and identify any areas for improvement. Acts on areas for improvement and creates a feedback loop.
• Effectively manages multiple customer/stakeholder/supplier relationships concurrently.

Project Management:

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills in project planning, project delivery and project financial forecasting, management and controls.
• Demonstrate knowledge of UK safety and environmental legislation with regards to development, design and delivery of construction projects.
• Exhibits strong leadership skills and the ability to matrix manage cross-functional teams effectively including contractors.
• Shows expertise in risk management and problem-solving to ensure project success to time, cost, scope and to a high quality.

What you’ll do

• Leading the development and costing for several customer connection investments of varying complexity up to the point that a proposal has been developed and an investment driver has been established.
• Developing a range of costed delivery programme options for each project to discuss with the customer to ensure best fit and solution with their requirements.
• Drive customer and stakeholder satisfaction through positive engagement and work pro-actively to resolve issues in a timely manner.
• Working closely with the Customer Account Managers, responsible for ensuring that our technical position aligns with our commercial position.
• Lead the investment process for a portfolio of complex customer investments up to and including the handover to the EPC Project Manager
• Appoint and lead the scheme team, actively managing key stakeholders to ensure their timely input and agreement to the selection and development of investments, pursuant to timely approvals.
• Undertake the required site and condition assessments, and support the consenting, type registration, cost estimation, programme risk mitigation and innovation activities to enable the delivery vehicle to implement the solution on site.
• Produce all required project documentation, ensuring governance is maintained throughout the investment process whilst also demonstrating the implementation of lessons learned and best practice

What you’ll get

• A competitive salary of £58,000 – £68,000 dependant on skills and experience
