Land Stewardship Internship
The Eco-Justice Center is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Land Stewardship Interns on a historic 15-acre farmstead. This position will provide hands-on experience in various aspects of no-till market gardening, agroforestry, sustainable land management, and conservation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for environmental stewardship, a readiness to acquire new skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team as well as work independently.

Position description

1. Grow and eat produce grown in the field and hoop house with sustainable, organicpractices, as well as distribute vegetables to our on-site programs, farm stand sales, andcommunity donations.

2. Participate in the removal of invasive species to preserve native plant communitiesand wildlife habitats.

3. Conduct seeding, planting, soil testing, and soil remediation activities.

4. Develop plant identification skills and conduct plant health assessments to identifyand address issues such as pests and disease.

5. Provide care and support for animals living on the property, including feeding and enclosure maintenance.

6. Develop inter-personal skills while working within a collaborative team.

7. Other opportunities: Assist with summer camp for children between the ages of 6-14. Assist with various other tasks around the farm (e.g. berry picking, fiber carding, etc.)

Note: Housing not provided.

Requirements

1. Applicants should support the mission of the Eco-Justice Center: Through leadership and education, we work for justice, healing, and rightrelationships among all Creation.
2. Adults (ages 18+) who are energetic, reliable, and have a demonstrated interest in sustainable agriculture.
3. Applicants must have reliable transportation.
4. Exhibit consistent skills – positive attitude, initiative, emotional maturity, self-responsibility and a desire to develop professional characteristics.
5. Physical requirements -Must be able to bend, crouch, and stand for extended periods of time, have the ability to lift 50 lbs., work in the soil,handle various farm equipment after instruction on use, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
6. Provide proof of vaccination.
7. Program preference is given to residents of Racine County or outlying area.
8. International applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without Eco-Justice Center sponsorship.

Pay Rate and Dates of Employment
Pay rate: $15.00 per hour (Tuesday – Friday, 8 hours per day from 7:30 am to 4:00pm, with an unpaid lunch) *Schedule is subject to change due to farmers markets, Farm Corps events, and Eco-Justice celebrations.

Start & end dates: June 2nd – August 31st (with possible option to work limited hours beginning in May and extending through October, as well as availability for intern to end early in mid-August) Minimum commitment of 12 weeks
