This course will cover advanced topics in recruiting and selection with emphasis on empirical and theoretical approaches to understanding these processes. Topics will include organizational recruitment strategies, the legal issues surrounding recruitment and selection, how to screen job applicants, and the role of employee testing and employee interview in making selection decisions. The purpose of this course is to develop a deep understanding of valid and reliable selection, with an emphasis on the role that it plays in the HR system, and to give students the skills to develop an effective and legally defensible selection system for any organization.Estimated Course Enrolment: 35Estimated TA Support: N/AClass Schedule: Friday 10:00 – 12:00Sessional Dates of Appointment: September 1 – December 31, 2025Salary:Salary (inclusive of vacation pay):
Sessional Lecturer I = $9820.70
Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term = $10,510.04
Sessional Lecturer II = $10,510.04
Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term = $10,760.28
Sessional Lecturer III = $10,760.28
Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term = $11,030.36Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement should prevail.Minimum Qualifications:
Completed PhD in Industrial Relations, Human Resources or related discipline; or a combination of advanced degrees (e.g.MIRHR/MBA/LLB in applicable area) and equivalent professional background. Expert knowledge of subject area.Preferred Qualifications:
Expert knowledge of subject area and demonstrated ability in university teaching. Previous experience in teaching a similar course is preferred.Description of Duties: Prepare a course syllabus in accordance with departmental guidelines. Prepare and deliver lectures (12 two-hour classes); be available for office hours and informal communications with students.
