Southeast jobshiringnearme.org Corps (SECC):
Empowering youth and adults to cultivate compassion, responsibility and life skills through community service, hard work and land stewardship.
Southeast jobshiringnearme.org Corps, a program of jobshiringnearme.org Legacy, is a non-profit AmeriCorps program. We engage youth (age 15-17) and young adults (ages 18-30, up to 35 for veterans) in service projects on public lands throughout the Southeast. SECC collaborates with land management agencies (United States Forest Service, National Park Service, State Parks, local municipalities, and non-profits) to host day or overnight camping crews and individual placements.
Our AmeriCorps positions provide impactful educational and service opportunities that benefit both communities and landscapes. SECC’s participants reflect the population of the Southeast region, including youth, graduates, veterans, and individuals from various backgrounds.
Canaveral National Seashore:
Canaveral National Seashore protects approximately 58,000 acres of coastal ecosystems in Central Florida. The Seashore includes 25 miles of undeveloped beaches, as well as a significant portion of the Mosquito Lagoon estuary. Plant communities found within the seashore include coastal hammock, salt marsh, pine flatwoods and beach dune. A large variety of imperiled plant and animal species are protected within the Seashore boundary, and the area represents a nationally significant sea turtle nesting area. The Resource Management program at Canaveral National Seashore is focused on documenting and maintaining natural resource conditions within the park. Primary activities are natural resource monitoring and invasive species control.
Position Overview:
SECC, in partnership with Canaveral National Seashore, will host an Invasives Technician Team Lead. This is an AmeriCorps position that will assist with the control and maintenance of invasive species at various locations within Canaveral National Seashore. These projects will result in the reduction of total cover of targeted species within coastal ecosystems protected within the park boundary. This will directly improve resource conditions for native plant and animal species.
