The Research Associate Program at GBI, in cooperation with the National Park Service at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is recruiting two (2) Interpretation and education Positions to participate in interpretation and education activities.
This project provides hands-on experience supporting the interpretive and education staff of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and Rainbow Bridge National Monument, enhancing visitor engagement and resource stewardship. Participants will assist with daily operations, deliver curriculum-based programs to school groups, and help plan and implement special events. They will engage the public through community outreach and provide visitor services at the visitor center, sharing information about recreational opportunities and park resources. Cross-training opportunities with other park divisions offer exposure to multiple aspects of the National Park Service mission. Throughout the project, participants will contribute to the conservation of natural and cultural resources while fostering public appreciation and understanding of the park’s unique offerings.

Page is a small city located in northern Arizona near the Utah border. Founded in 1957 as a housing community for workers building the Glen Canyon Dam, Page has grown into a hub for tourism and outdoor recreation. The city is a gateway to the stunning natural wonders of the region, including Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, and Lake Powell. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area spans nearly 1.25 million acres across northern Arizona and southern Utah. The area is centered around Lake Powell, a 186-mile-long reservoir created by the Glen Canyon Dam on the Colorado River. The park offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities, including boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and scenic photography. Visitors can explore dramatic sandstone canyons, unique rock formations, and cultural sites such as Ancestral Puebloan sites and petroglyphs.

Compensation: $19.00 Hourly
Benefits:
Housing: Government housing may be available. Government housing is shared. Each resident in government housing will have a private bedroom, while bathrooms, kitchen, and living areas are shared. Residents may have multiple house mates depending on unit assigned. Government housing units are in the Wahweap district – approximately 7 miles from workstation. Rent ranges from $330 to $375 bi-weekly, depending on the housing unit assigned. Reimbursement of $100 total per month ($25 weekly) will be provided to the selected participant for housing. If government housing is not available, the applicant will have to find housing in the community.

This position involves both indoor and outdoor work, requiring some physical effort such as loading and unloading brochures and educational/interpretive materials, as well as occasional hiking for guided walks, field trips, or community events.
There is occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, and temperature changes.
