Location: Ericsson R&D center Massy-FranceEricsson is building a new R&D team in Massy, France, focused on cutting-edge technologies such as AI/ML, cloud, and 5G and beyond. Within this new lab, the Standards & Technology unit is part of the Business Unit Networks global organization, which secures technology leadership in Radio Access Networks (RAN) by actively driving new concepts, standardization, software and hardware research, architecture, and testbeds. Technical focus areas include 5G evolution, IoT, digital twins, automation/machine learning, and security.As part of a young and talented research team, we are looking for an intern for 2025 that will help us grow and support our activities. We are looking for a motivated candidate to assist in the integration and evaluation of a previously developed OpenAirInterface (OAI) User Equipment (UE) code into an Open RAN testbed. This project aims to enhance our O-RAN testbed capabilities and focus on the evaluation of security-related behaviors and countermeasures in a controlled environment.The candidate will
- study and understand the previously developed UE code, which include attacks on the RRC and MAC layers, understanding its impact on the RAN,
- integrate this code with our in-house O-RAN testbed,
- design and implement test scenarios,
- evaluate the impact of these attacks,
- analyze and document the integration’s performance and identify potential improvements,
- contribute to comprehensive documentation to support future research.
The expected results may lead to writing an academic publication or filling a patent for an invention.The following skills are relevant for the position
- Strong background in network protocols and wireless communication systems.
- Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++),
- Familiarity with open-source network simulation tools (e.g., OAI) is a plus,
- Exposure to cloud-native concepts and tools (virtualization, containers, Kubernetes),
- Critical thinking, curiosity, and autonomy are desired qualities,
- Ability to interact in a multicultural environment (written and spoken English is mandatory).
