With a broad range of staff experience and state-of-the-art instrumentation, we provide cross-analytical solutions for the Environmental, Energy, Mining, Transportation, Industrial, Agri-food and Life Sciences sectors.Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist – GC/MSAGAT Laboratories is hiring a Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist – GC/MS. This is a mid-level position working in the laboratory, given direction from the Operations or Lab Manager.
The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert with responsibilities for maintaining and optimizing GC/MS instruments within the Molecular and Isotopic Geochemistry Lab. Additionally, this role requires one to be able to work independently on laboratory activities. This position will be based in Calgary, candidate will need to be flexible to support other AGAT laboratory locations as needed.Duties:

  • Calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all instruments under the Specialist’s area of expertise.
  • Implement and manage preventative maintenance and analyst training programs within the lab(s).
  • Train analysts on instrument operation, project manage tasks and troubleshooting.
  • Compile, verify and validate accurate data records..
  • Review and ensure QA/QC objectives are appropriate and being met.
  • Provide technical and instrumental support to operations.
  • Follow all relevant corporate policies and procedures.
  • Assist management in improving efficiencies throughout the operations.
  • Develop and review SOPs.
  • Research new methodologies and participate in R&D projects.
  • Liaise with both clients and suppliers where required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Science or Engineering degree required.
  • 3+ years instrument experience required.
  • Significant experience with the operation and maintenance of GC/MS instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of full laboratory processes.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data management.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a positive manner in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires a person to stand, sit and lift throughout the shift in a laboratory environment. Manual dexterity is required to perform repetitive tasks. PPE is required where applicable.
