About the Role:This position focuses on supporting children and youth in our summer day camp program who can benefit from additional support at camp. This position is responsible for ensuring quality, inclusive program delivery with a focus on physical literacy, cooperative play, and confidence building. You will be responsible for direct delivery of child-centric development-based programming for youth ages 5 to 12 who require extra support.In this role, you will:
- Dedicate time to participants within the program who require additional support to get the most out of camp.
- Work with individual campers and their families to identify tools, strategies and adaptations to ensure that camp meets their needs. Foster positive, collaborative relationships with parents and caregivers in aim of supporting and enhancing a child’s learning, engagement and development. Keep parents and guardians informed about their child’s camp experience. Through collaboration with the Camp Director, ensure a timely, meaningful resolution to parent concerns regarding program delivery.
- Develop program modifications and strategies to encourage participants to engage with camp activities and events.
- Monitor and support campers using best practices to ensure maximum safety, comfort and engagement through a busy camp schedule
- Plan and implement day camp programming that provides an interactive, well-rounded, and educational experience in keeping with quality standards, child safeguarding/safety requirements, and provincial requirements (i.e., applicable legislation).
- Champion and model Y values and behavior standards in all interactions.
Education and Skills Qualifications:
- High School diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must have training or equivalent experience working directly with children and youth with exceptionalities
- 1-2 years of childcare experience with demonstrable evidence of experience linked to the role’s responsibilities.
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education or related field an asset
- Cross-cultural communication skills to work with youth, parents, and staff
- Ability to meet multiple, competing deadlines and priorities
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation/workshop facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal skills including tact, diplomacy, and ability to establish rapport with clients
