Job description
The PositionReporting to the Health Manager or Designate, the Home Maker is responsible for performing various duties to assist Elders and disabled citizens in their homes by providing house cleaning. The position offers clients support but does not provide hands-on care. The successful candidate will have the interpersonal skills necessary to efficiently and effectively coordinate the scheduling with other team members. Sensitivity to the special needs of elderly people, attention to detail, and a client-based approach while being compassionate are required.The Candidate:
- Deliver services in an appropriate, caring and respectful manner. Take direction from the Home Care Nurse.
- Clean bathroom, tubs, toilets, sinks, floors and laundry.
- Vacuum, sweep and mop floors.
- Wipe and clean windows.
- Clean kitchen and dishes with each visit.
- Clean oven, stove and fridge once a month or required.
- Provide care and companionship for individuals and families.
- Follow health and safety principles in delivering client care and working effectively and cooperatively with others.
- Attend and participate in meetings.
- Must be responsible and ethical, show compassion and main confidentiality.
- Must be willing to assist in community engagement workshops for Men/Women/Children and Families.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to respond to unexpected emergencies.
- Develop and maintain accurate, up-to-date work files.
- Maintain and present a positive and professional image at all times.
- Perform other duties within the scope of the position, as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- A Minimum of Grade 12 education.
- First Aid and CPR Level 1 or willing to complete within 1 month of starting the position.
- Respect for, sensitivity towards, knowledge, and understanding of shíshálh culture and traditions.
- Knowledge of First Nation service delivery, customs and traditions.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Current BC Driver’s License and access to a personal vehicle.
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Knowledge of shíshálh culture and community members is an asset.
