Salary : $70,000-$72,000 CAD annually

Job Summary

It’s grow time and we’re looking for a dynamic professional (like you) to plant their roots with us as our newest Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Specialist for a 12 contract. In this role, you will support our Thrive Facility (Jarvis, Ontario) with nurturing a safe and healthy workplace. Reporting to the Director of HSE, the HSE Specialist is responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and improvement of all HSE programs within the facility, focusing on prevention to continually elevate the HSE culture. The role is also accountable to ensure site-wide execution of HSE related programs and processes, as well ensure all HSE programs comply with company and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a subject matter expert to support facility leadership in HSE matters that affect the business
  • Nurture a safe environment within the facility by identifying and assessing potential workplace risks and opportunities, investigating incidents, and developing, implementing and monitoring HSE programs.
  • Ensure all HSE incidents are properly documented and appropriate corrective actions identified are implemented within a timely manner
  • Regularly review incident data to determine injury/risk trends and establish action plans as needed
  • Oversee initiatives that educate employees about HSE, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources in managing Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) claims including return to work plans
  • Ensure tools and equipment in the facilities meet industry standards, are installed properly and regularly inspected where required
  • Schedule and support monthly JHSC meetings, including monthly workplace inspections
  • Provide site support by attending department safety meetings, completing inspections, facilitating training, and creating communications as needed
  • Conduct orientation and H&S training for new hires
  • Conduct proactive assessments to evaluate workplace hazards and opportunities
  • Work closely with leadership to drive and strengthen safety culture by resolving concerns and identify opportunities for improvements, including maintaining a visible presence in the facility

Requirement

  • Post-secondary education – Diploma or Degree in a program relating to safety preferred
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of HSE experience
  • CRSP designation is an asset
  • Experience in Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical or Food Production is an asset
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • You need a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to travel to different sites in the GTA.
  • This is an onsite role. Occasional support or visits may be required on an as needed basis to other sites within Canada
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products including Excel and PowerPoint
