The Opportunity:Company, Department: Nova Scotia Power, Power GenerationLocation: Halifax, NSClosing Date: September 10, 2024Nova Scotia Power is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join the Standards team in the role of Grounding & Materials Standards Engineer, reporting to the Senior Manager, Standards and Reliability. In this role the engineer will be responsible to create and maintain grounding distribution design and material Standards and will work closely with the Senior Materials Technologist. Key elements of this role include::

  • Creation and updating of distribution design Standards for distribution grounding systems. These documents are Engineered Drawings that are used by Planners and Power Line Technicians for the design and installation of the many assemblies that make up the NSPI distribution system.
  • Creation and updating of Standard Work Methods through collaboration with field-based personnel for grounding systems.
  • Approval of Tools and Equipment used in the execution of work as defined in Standard Work Method(s).
  • Completion of material review and assessments, and incorporation of findings into Standards deliverables noted above.
  • Specification and approval of materials for field installation as defined in Design Standards
  • Procurement support, including support of the joint procurement initiative with New Brunswick Power, including bid evaluations and technical recommendations

  • Electrical Engineering degree
  • 5 years relevant experience working in a utility environment
  • Registered or eligible for registration with Engineers NS
  • Familiarity with distribution assets and system design, construction and/or operation considered beneficial
