The Grazing Lands Program Manager is responsible for supporting and advancing Sustainable Northwest’s vision for the growth and development of regenerative ranching across the West. This position reports to the Regenerative Ranching Program Director and will work closely with landowners and key stakeholders to implement strategies, new technology, programs, and projects to increase landowner involvement and education in regenerative ranching practices. This position will work most closely with landowners to adopt virtual fencing and grazing management plans in response to the Lone Rock Fire located in Gilliam County and provide technical assistance to producers located in eastern and central Oregon to deploy sustainable land management on their operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively lead meetings, events, and activities relevant to the Lone Rock Fire Virtual Fencing project in partnership with Gilliam SWCD and other project partners.
  • Compile, organize, and disseminate group meeting notes, including specific action items and deadlines.
  • Serveasliaison between landowners and conservation agencies, virtual fencing companies, researchers, and other technical service providers.
  • Research, apply for, and secure state, federal, private sector, and foundation funding opportunities that support conservation practices on farms and ranches.
  • Leverage experience as a technical service provider to facilitate customized landowner enrollment in conservation programs.
  • Ifnot already designated as a certified Technical Service Provider, work to meet these requirements with 18 months of hire.
  • Leadandsupport landowner outreach and engagement activities, including events, written materials, and site visits.
  • Comply, oversee, and manage all requirements and deadlines of funded grants.
  • Develop partnerships with agencies, Tribal governments, organizations, and individuals to fundraise for and implement conservation practices.
  • Build trust with landowners and land management organizations; build social capital with the regional offices of state agencies.
  • Coordinate and help implement aspects of regenerative ranching projects on partner ranches.
  • Maintain and update detailed spreadsheets on producers interested in restoration activities, including any projects underway and/or completed.
  • Recommendstrategic frameworks for conservation enrollment, environmental conflict resolution, water management, and community engagement to supervisors, including drafting outlines and briefs for executive review.
