Job SummaryKiwa Fire Safety Compliance (KFS) have an exciting opening for Graduate Fire Safety Engineers to join our Fire Safety Engineering (FSE) team from September 2025, working as part of a specialised engineering consultancy in a supportive and diverse team of established fire engineers in our Aylesbury office. As a Graduate Fire Safety Engineer, you will be an integral part of the team. Working with our experienced engineers, you will receive constant supervision and mentoring to quickly gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of fire engineering projects from concept design through to construction.About the roleThis entry level fire engineering role will be a client facing position and will provide the opportunity for you to work on a wide variety of projects across a number of sectors. A key part of this role will be working with colleagues and collaborating with clients (who include some of the largest building developers in the country), external design teams, and other construction and building professionals to overcome unique project specific challenges.This is the perfect role if you are looking to start your career in fire engineering, where you will be fully supported with mentoring and training to enable you to work towards becoming a competent fire engineer. This position offers excellent prospects for progression, combined with opportunities to broaden your fire engineering knowledge/skills through collaboration with other Kiwa Fire Safety Compliance departments/teams.

  • You will be responsible for supporting the team with the delivery of fire safety consultancy services, including but not limited to the development of fire safety strategies, reports, technical notes, letters, drawing mark-ups/reviews and using engineering principles and all the necessary supporting calculations (where applicable).
  • You will, under the supervision of others, review building designs and design elements to assess compliance, whilst also assisting with the development of fire safety solutions as part of the overall design team.
  • You will have a client facing role, which will include direct correspondence (emails, telephone calls, meeting attendance) with clients, design teams and Statutory Authorities under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • You will develop your knowledge of fire engineering and Building Regulations to support projects in a variety of sectors.
  • You will be able to present your work in an appropriate and coherent format.
  • You will be able to deliver work in accordance with agreed time scales and budgets under supervision.
  • In addition to the support and mentoring provided by the company, you will take ownership of your own personal development, ensuring continuous professional development (CPD) by learning new skills, knowledge and experience to enhance professional abilities and maintain an effective performance as a professional fire engineer. As a guide, you would be expected to undertake at least 25 hours of CPD per year, including both a mix of formal and informal activities which the company will support.
  • You will assist the sales and estimating team in the bidding process of future work and developing/strengthening networking channels.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with a prediction of 2:1 or above in Fire Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Building Services Engineering etc. Courses must be accredited by one or more professional engineering institution (such as the Institution of Fire Engineers etc.) to meet, or partially meet the education criteria for Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) through the Engineering Council.
  • Desire to pursue a career in Fire Engineering and willingness to become professionally qualified such as a Chartered Engineer through the Institution of Fire Engineers (or other suitable professional engineering institution).
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team on multiple projects and collaborate with colleagues, design team members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work under pressure and assist the team in reaching targets.
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) and well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent numerical skills and aptitude for problem solving.
  • Trusted to deal with confidential information.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Willingness to travel as and when required.
  • Full UK driving licence.
