Our Chalk River location is looking for Group 1 Radiation Surveyors to identify radioactive hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination and to be acquainted with all established practices and procedures for radiation protection.What will you be doing !

  • Performing daily routine radiation and contamination surveys of work areas.
  • Establishing barriers and posting signage as required based on survey results.
  • Identifying radiological hazards that may lead to the spread of contamination or affect the life and health of employees.
  • Providing job oversight from a radiological aspect and providing radiological guidance and advice to workers.
  • Discussing Radiation Protection issues with staff in the work area and presenting recommendations in a clear, assertive, and diplomatic manner.
  • Initiating and establishing any desirable control measures in addition to those typically established.
  • Exercising judgment in radiological input and advice.
  • Recognizing the importance of a strong reporting culture and understanding the reporting chain respective to the work area.
  • Participating in investigations into unexpected conditions.
  • Offering advice, guidance, and knowledge when determining required actions to mitigate the unexpected conditions.
  • Providing radiological advice and guidance to other Radiation Protection Staff and workers.
  • Assisting with the training of Group 1 and Group 2 Radiation Surveyors.
  • Assisting Group 2 Radiation Surveyors with routine work and duties as necessary.
  • Completing all required training and maintaining personal training requirements.
  • Utilizing Radiation Protection documents to support decisions and guidance in the work area.
  • Maintaining daily radiological logs that are thorough and accurate.
  • Performing regular compliance surveys and inputting data from these surveys into the appropriate software.
  • Determining appropriate Personal Protective Equipment requirements, job time lengths, and ALARA controls using information available.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for :

  • Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education OR Secondary School Graduation Diploma OR Equivalent and has typically more than 3 years pertinent experience OR the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
  • Successful completion of CNL’s online aptitude assessment and proctored math test, administered internally.
  • Experience
  • Experience in the nuclear industry is preferred.
  • Supervisory skills and experience are considered an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of all instruments used in radiation work and of all radiation protection procedures.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate a high sense of individual responsibility.
  • Ability to improvise and to deal adequately with rapidly changing conditions.
  • Skilled at being tactful and diplomatic, being able to work effectively with employees of other branches and being able to present recommendations clearly and effectively.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to influence and/or educate various work groups.
  • Ability to adapt to new work with regard to location or tasks.
  • Self-motivated worker who is able to work independently when required.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
