About the Role:

The First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Events Coordinator is responsible for facilitating and coordinating events related to strategic Indigenous initiatives for Hadiya’dagénhahs, including orientations, career fairs, workshops, cultural programs, student luncheons, high school visits, special events, Indigenous outreach activities, and initiatives for Indigenous students and communities.

The First Nations, Métis, & Inuit Events Coordinator will:

  • Organize event details including room booking, catering, guest speakers, agendas, audio-visual and equipment arrangements, and all other logistics;
  • Assist in providing support and advice for Indigenous students, connecting students to various services across the University for additional resources and services;
  • Assist with program development, performs administrative tasks and assists with preparation of reports;
  • Coordinate the end-to-end Indigenous recruitment process including scheduling recruitment visits, information, and orientation sessions for prospective applicants, and actively promoting the benefits of attending Brock University to encourage Indigenous student enrolment;
  • Deliver on and off campus presentations to the Indigenous students and the community regarding University programs, services, policies, admission requirements, respond to all inquiries or refer to appropriate party;
  • Provide support and advice for Indigenous students, connecting students to various services across the University for additional support;
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of Indigenous community contacts and organizations, educational agencies, schools, and businesses;
  • Track and report Indigenous recruitment activities and contribute to the development of ongoing market refinements and student recruitment strategies; and
  • Promote First Nations, Métis, and Inuit self-identification strategy, explaining purpose and benefits.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (i.e., Recreation and Leisure Studies, Event Planning and Management) or the equivalent of education and experience;
  • Identify as a member of a First Nations, Métis, or Inuit community;
  • Valid Ontario G class driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract;
  • Demonstrated experience working in an Indigenous support role, having experience and competency with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit ccultures, history, and community protocols;
  • Thorough understanding and experience of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit culture, customs, history, and community protocols;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous politics as they relate to education and community visits;
  • Familiarity with Indigenous communities, funding sources and band funders for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students;
  • The ability to multi-task in response to changing/conflicting priorities in order to meet deadlines;
  • Solid presentation skills with proven ability to clearly articulate University programs and services and confidently respond to questions.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • Personal experience as a First Nations, Métis, and Inuit student attending a post-secondary institution in an urban setting;
  • Experience in a First Nations, Metis or Inuit community;
  • Experience working in a higher education environment, preferably within Brock University to be acquainted with programs, services, faculties, and departments.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade J, Salary Scale ($56,503 – $91,627);
  • Target Hiring Range: $56,503-$60,000*
  • This is a permanent position that includes:
  • Health & Dental Benefits: Comprehensive extended health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Pension Plan: Enrollment eligibility in the Brock University Pension Plan.
  • Vacation: Up to 3 weeks per year, in addition to university holidays.
  • Professional Development: Eligibility for the Brock Tuition Waiver Program.
  • The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
