Mass Audubon is seeking to fill Field Technician I positions to support the research, monitoring, management, and protection of coastal birds and other natural resources. Field Technicians will be mentored by Mass Audubon staff in the monitoring and management of Piping Plovers, Least and Common Terns, and American Oystercatchers. This is a field-based position with potential for minimal office work for data management assistance and offers opportunities to take on varied projects as needed. Multiple positions are available across coastal Massachusetts, including on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, South Shore and North Shore. This position’s pay range is $16.75-18.00/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position. Shared staff housing may be available for rent in some locations. Housing is available on a first come, first serve basis.
Work Schedule
Start date is flexible through the month of May with latest start possible by May 22, 2026. This position ends on August 7, 2026. The schedule is typically 35 hours per week, 8:00am-4:00pm with some earlier days (6:00am-2:00pm) and later days (10:00am-6:00pm) required for special monitoring projects and training. Work on weekends and holidays is required (specifically Memorial Day and Fourth of July), with variable hours and schedule due to weather and site-specific requirements. Requests for a limited number of weekend days off may be considered.
Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
Staff members must complete all designated training sessions throughout the season, as applicable to their responsibilities.
