What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an experienced and self-motivated Facilities Water Engineer to support industrial water production and distribution systems infrastructure for electric vehicle drivetrain and battery systems production at Gigafactory Nevada. You will play a critical role on our facilities engineering team supporting and optimizing domestic water distribution, sanitary wastewater systems, RO and DI skids for pure water production, and GFNV’s relatively new advanced wastewater treatment facility (AWTF), still in various stages of evolution and commissioning. The AWTF is designed to condition reclaimed water from GFNV’s water supplier into suitable quality make-up water for all industrial processes and to likewise recycle and extract suitable make-up water from the factory’s various industrial discharge streams (RO reject, cooling tower blowdown, manufacturing wastewater) while minimizing liquid discharge. As the facilities water engineer, you are expected to be working as a subject matter expert who is responsible for safety, capacity improvement, refining operational tools, process optimization, and structured problem solving on pure, industrial, sanitary waste, Reclaim, and domestic water streams as well as concentrated brine treatment systems. Significant expansions to the existing advanced water treatment facility are expected, which will create opportunities for the candidate facilities engineer to collaborate on the design, installation, and commissioning of further state-of-the-art treatment facilities. Come join us to help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy!

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams (Design, Operations, Maintenance, and Production) along with site tenants to ensure process, equipment, and asset availability to best meet customer requirements
  • Implement and standardize best safety practices for all water purification and wastewater treatment systems
  • Analyze operating data and operating conditions to forecast system inputs/outputs for power, make-up water, wastewater, chemicals, discharge water, and media replacements
  • Effectively respond to and support facilities operational process issues in a 24/7 production setting. Increase process up-time and minimize unscheduled equipment downtime for the assigned assets
  • Create, modify, and optimize standard operating procedures, programs, other documentation and site specifications
  • Complete monthly system operational cost analysis and drive improvements based on analysis
  • Conduct research and pilot studies to drive a CapEx improvement projects
  • Monitor current system demands and capacity concerns
  • Perform system analysis including root cause analysis, failure mode analysis, capacity and demand management, and troubleshooting
  • Provide input to strategic short-term, and long-term infrastructure planning to eliminate or minimize production downtime associated with preventative maintenance, system retrofits, or factory expansion activities

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering and 2+ years of experience in water purification operations including reverse osmosis (RO) and or wastewater treatment systems
  • Advanced knowledge of water purification technologies and system operations
  • Operational experience in wastewater treatment, domestic water, and demineralized water systems a must
  • Prior experience in a high purity facility (e.g. semiconductor) or water Reclamation facility preferred
  • Experience with commissioning, starting up, and troubleshooting water systems and understanding of water chemistry
  • Ability to use hydraulic analysis such as Pipe-flo and RO analysis tools such as ROSA is preferred
  • Effective communications and cross-functional abilities are highly desired
