The Latino Heritage Internship Program seeks to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers.

Position Description:
EVER and DRTO recently started a park-wide Dark Skies IDT with the goal of submitting an International Dark Skies Designation Proposal by October 2025. The intern would work with the IDT and a professional team of experts in Planning and Compliance to help collect data for the dark skies proposal. This would include field surveys to collect dark sky metrics, inventorying external lighting, and working with the team to develop the park’s dark sky plan. The data would be compiled into a proposal and submitted to the International Dark Skies Committee.
This is a fantastic summer internship opportunity at Everglades and Dry Tortugas, as it will give the intern a chance to meet with IDT members who represent every division across all areas of the park, including park leadership.

Interns in this program will receive 480 hours toward Public Land Corps (PLC) Hiring Authority. See below for information about PLC.
Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)
The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position.
