Description

The Southwest Suburban Health Department is seeking a Full-Time Environmentalist to serve as a public health professional dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the communities we serve. This role enforces health and safety regulations, conducts retail food and recreation inspections, investigates nuisance complaints, performs lead risk assessments, performs weights and measures compliance checks, and supports a variety of other environmental health programs. The Environmentalist exercises strong judgment and decision-making skills while contributing to policy updates and ensuring compliance with evolving local and state regulations. This position will split time between the West Allis and Greenfield office locations.

  • Retail (Restaurant) Food Inspection, licensing, sampling, and complaints

  • Hotel/Motel/Tourist Rooming House Inspection, licensing, and complaints

  • Pool/Whirlpool: Testing, Inspection, licensing, and complaints

  • Certified Lead Risk Assessor/Lead Poisoning Prevention: Environmental lead testing

  • Healthy Homes (mold, radon, asbestos, air quality, indoor pests) Inspections/Complaints/Investigations

  • Weights and Measures: Testing, Inspections, licensing, and Complaints

  • Food/Waterborne Outbreak Investigations

  • Humane Animal/Rabies Quarantine and Control/Dangerous Dog Investigations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Environmental Health or a related field, at the time of hire.
  • If not already REHS/RS credentialed, must be eligible for certification through the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) within one (1) year of hire.
