SUMMARY Mortenson is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. The Environmental Specialist will support Mortenson’s environmental management efforts on a large scale Civil infrastructure project, and additional projects in the future, providing review of environmental documentation, and advising on environmental matters in a manner consistent with company policies and procedures, and completing actions necessary for environmental compliance. NOTE: This position will be based in Northern LOUISIANA. RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement Mortenson’s environmental program for simple to moderately complex project sites and promulgate environmental compliance of construction activities. Develop site specific environmental plans and activities Review environmental submittals and attend preconstruction and preparatory meetings Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with environmental regulations Develop and lead environmental orientation and training programs Lead onsite best management practices for environmental management Monitor implementation of environmental mitigation measures and conduct work site environmental inspections Collaborate with customers on regulatory (Federal, State, Provincial and local) reporting and documentation requirements Maintain operational knowledge of environmental issues in construction, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures Interface with customer’s environmental personnel, environmental consultants, regulatory representatives, etc. Assist in the development company-wide Environmental Management supportive programs QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of four years related experience Stormwater experience on large scale civil projects, including experience with SWPPP inspections and implementation, and a focus on solutions Working knowledge of material and waste management, including characterization and disposal Wetlands/surface waters and Section 401/404 compliance experience is strongly preferred Working knowledge of cultural resources, chemical tracking (EPCRA reporting), and/or spill prevention control countermeasures experience is preferred Strong understanding of Federal, State, Provincial and local laws, policies and procedures A well-organized and self-directed individual who is collaborative and a team player Ability to interact with consultants and governmental agencies Ability to use PC, tablets and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word) Current driver’s license Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in geology, environmental management, environmental science, biology, or related field Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.
