DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of Director and Assistant Director, Environmental Services, the Manager, Environmental Services is responsible for administering policies, procedures and programs to improve operational performance; implementing a continuous quality improvement program; overall day-to-day supervision of departmental operations (with the assistance of the supervisors, lead custodians and staff) implementing technical training programs for supervisors and staff assisting with a full range of personnel and labor relations activities, including recruitment, hiring, evaluations, staff development, and discipline; overseeing quality control measures, procurement of equipment and supplies; maintenance of required record-keeping systems.

The EVS Manager meets regularly with the Environmental Services staff to review departmental policies and practices with a view toward continual process improvement. Proven operations experience and success at a supervisory level: demonstrated oral and written communication skills; professional appearance and demeanor, the ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives; and technical experience in an hospital or similar facility. Skilled in working in diverse unionized workforce. Experience with government, regulatory, and industry codes, policies, standards and requirements involving a health care facility such as DHS, JCAHO, OSHA, hazardous and bio-hazardous waste handling, sterile cleaning procedures and infection control requirements, codes and policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five (5) years of successful experience and effective skills in directing and managing a large and widely dispersed custodial/related services operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience and knowledge with government, regulatory, and industry codes, policies, standards, and requirements involving a healthcare facility such as DEH, CDPH, TJC, OSHA, CMS, EOC hazardous and biohazardous waste handling, sterile cleaning procedures, and infection control requirements, codes and policies.
  • Have a thorough, proven understanding of procedures for the proper handling, storage, and disposal of chemotherapy, infectious/biohazard, pharmaceutical, and confidential waste streams.
  • Must be proficient with MS Office and Maintenance Management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with an independent ability to set priorities and manage conflicting demands with limited supervision.
  • Able to quickly learn operational needs, and work collaboratively on a fast-paced, high-functioning team.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with experience applying good judgment and discretion.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP).
  • Healthcare setting.
  • Blood-borne pathogens and sharps disposal training.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,800 – $115,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.51 – $55.08

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
