Job Purpose

National Grid’s Downstate New York Environmental Compliance, Licensing and Permitting group is seeking a full-time position to support a variety of tasks. Responsibilities include management, coordination and oversight of various environmental compliance and permit programs associated with regulated waste management, hazardous materials management, emergency response, regulatory tracking and interface, and oversight of environmental activities at company facilities. The position also requires the development and implementation of compliance programs in conjunction with the various operating organizations impacted; interaction with internal personnel, regulatory agencies and members of the public; and the ability to read and understand regulations, laws and statutes.

Key Accountabilities
  • Effectively communicate with peers and regulators. Act as Regulatory liaison.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations is highly desirable, particularly in the waste management and spill response/remediation regulations.
  • Develop and maintain required contingency plans.
  • Actively participate in development of Environmental Procedures and Policies.
  • Develop excellent rapport with field engineering operations.
  • Provide field support training, EMS support.
  • Provide support for Environmental emergency response.
  • Collaborates & communicates well with others and builds consensus around decisions impacting other organizations.
  • May include acting as a subject matter leader and may include resource coordination and/or management of others within the group including setting performance goals and performance management.
  • Coaching, and succession planning for the organization
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g Biology, Environmental Engineering/Science, etc.) or related industry experience
  • 3-5+ years of related environmental experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable environmental regulations
  • Good understanding of utility construction & operation practices
  • Very good organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage contractors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are mandatory.

Salary

$95.000 – $112,000 a year

National Grid utilizes an assessment that evaluates the job qualifications/characteristics using AI or statistically based scoring. For more information, please view NYC Local Law 144.
