Environmental Scientist 1 – Staff Scientist

Apex Companies is hiring an Environmental Scientist I – Staff Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional who wants to gain experience across multiple environmental disciplines. You’ll work alongside experienced environmental professionals on projects involving environmental site assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, stormwater compliance, asbestos inspections, and environmental due diligence services.

What You’ll Do

As an Environmental Scientist I, you’ll support a diverse range of environmental consulting projects for both public and private sector clients.

Responsibilities may include:

• Conducting field investigations and environmental site assessments (Phase I and Phase II ESAs)
• Collecting soil, groundwater, and other environmental samples
• Assisting with environmental compliance and due diligence projects
• Supporting stormwater inspection, maintenance, and repair projects
• Coordinating and overseeing subcontractors during drilling and sampling operations
• Assisting with asbestos inspections and sampling activities
• Recording field observations and maintaining accurate project documentation
• Preparing technical reports and supporting project deliverables
• Working closely with project managers and senior technical staff to support client needs

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Ecology, Biology, or a related field
• 0-2 years of relevant experience
• Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Willingness to perform field work in varying weather and site conditions
• Ability to travel locally throughout Virginia and surrounding areas, field work will comprise about 80% of the role
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
