Apex willhire one or twosummerenvironmentalinternsto join our team of scientists workingonvariousbiological field projectsrelated to reclamation efforts in the Rocky Mountain Region. Thispositionwill be an opportunity for you to learn new skills, travel,andgain valuablenatural resourceexperiences. Our interns work with professionalscientiststo learn the skills necessary to workin environmental consulting.

  • Expected Interview Dates:March – April
  • Expected Hiring Dates:May1st.
  • Hourly Rate:$20-$22/hr.,depending onexperience.

Your Responsibilities as an Environmental Intern:

  • Independently conduct reclamation and vegetation monitoring surveys throughout Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.
  • Learn to gather, analyze, andconductbasicscientificdatainterpretation.
  • Accurately complete field data entry formsusingelectronic data collection devices such as tablets andGlobal Positioning System (GPS)units.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) necessary toconduct compliance monitoring tasks safely.
  • Bewilling and able to follow all health and safety procedures andmakesafefield-basedjudgments.Health and safety training will bea vitalpartof your training, and you will not work in the fielduntil you completeall training.
  • Comfortable working inremote and sometimes isolated conditions during the day.
  • Be willing to learn new skills, be mentored byprofessionals,and work as a team.

What we’re looking for:

  • College-level coursework or field experience related to biological, environmental, or earth sciences.Botany and plant identification experienceispreferred.
  • Anaptitudetoidentifyweeds, grasses, forbs, and shrubsnative toWyoming, Utah, and Colorado.
  • Someexperiencewith vegetation monitoringtechniques such asquadrat sampling.We will provide training.
  • Proficiencyin navigating and interpretingArcGISFieldMapsand Google Earth.
  • Ability to work independently and self-initiate in demanding work conditions.
  • Strongcommunicationskills, the ability to successfully multi-task, safety awareness, and a good record and understanding of safe work practices.
  • Experience withrecordingscientificdata.
  • Willingness forweek-longovernight travel, including weekends,with all expenses paid and a per diem.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and ongoing random drug screens.
