Role Summary

The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Representative Specialist is responsible for managing EHS data, programs, and compliance activities to ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. This role maintains the EHS management system (including ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), supports risk assessments, industrial hygiene sampling, and occupational health evaluations, and leads or supports inspections, audits, and incident investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related field required
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred credentials.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and procedures, including CAA, RCRA, CWA, and other related regulations.
  • RCRA and DOT training certificates required.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and customer service) with the ability to effectively collaborate with others and manage projects and meetings.
  • Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Must be able to be entrusted with confidential information.
  • Proficient with office equipment, computers, and software including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, cloud-based systems, networking, and email programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems effectively.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think strategically and with an enterprise-wide perspective.
  • Ability to manage multiple efforts simultaneously

Responsibilities

  • Collect, manage, and report EHS data for periodic regulatory documents and metrics.
  • Maintain EHS management system (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001) documentation, internal audits, and related processes and program elements.
  • Support EHS risk assessments for jobs performed by employees and develop and recommend risk mitigation strategies.
  • Perform studies to monitor and assess employees’ exposure to health risks and measure the effectiveness of occupational health programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Take samples and measurements for industrial hygiene purposes and report results and recommendations.
  • Support and assist managers, employees, and others in completing their safety and compliance responsibilities (e.g., audits, following safety rules).
  • Support EHS compliance inspections and audits, enforce EHS policies and regulations, and ensure corrective actions are monitored and documented.
  • Support waste management and disposal activities and ensure compliance with applicable RCRA and DOT requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with Michigan EGLE and EPA air emission permitting requirements and processes.
  • Support air emission monitoring and reporting activities and ensure compliance with applicable Michigan EGLE and EPA air permit requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with and support SARA Title III reporting requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with OSHA fall protection requirements and support GDLS program compliance activities.
  • Maintain familiarity with Michigan’s Industrial Stormwater Management requirements and certifications, and demonstrate the ability to obtain a Stormwater Operator certificate.
  • Complete, document, and submit required EHS reports and recordkeeping information as necessary.
  • Maintain SHC environmental permits.
  • Maintain current knowledge of environmental, occupational health and safety, and material transportation legislation.
  • Perform contractor/service provider safety briefings (EHSI C-9).
  • Support the investigation of incidents, including HAZMAT spills/releases, employee injuries, and near-miss incidents, and monitor closure of effective corrective and preventive actions, as assigned.
  • Review SDSs for new materials for approval for use within GDLS (EHSI I-03).
  • Support interactions with state and federal agencies such as state environmental agencies, EPA (MI-EGLE, GLWA), OSHA (MIOSHA), NRC, and DOT during inspections and information requests.
  • Support respirator fit testing (EHSI E-03).
  • Develop, deliver, and support EHS/Safety talks and campaigns.
  • Perform other EHS-related duties, as assigned.
  • position may require short-term travel to other GDLS CONUS locations.

Additional Information

  • Availability to work outside regular business hours as needed,to address critical issues.
  • This position may require eligibility to obtain a US security clearance. (Non-US Citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance).
