What to Expect

Tesla is seeking an Energy Project Developer based in Palo Alto, CA or in Austin, TX. The Project Developer will be responsible for performing diligence and acquiring projects to showcase Tesla battery storage hardware and software capabilities in North America, and will use these projects to address market challenges impacting battery energy storage growth. The Project Developer will develop innovative utility-scale battery storage projects from early-stage diligence to project acquisition, through to a construction-ready stage.


Successful candidates will have experience in electric generation or storage project development and the ability to manage cross-functional teams, thriving in a fast-paced work environment with diverse colleagues. We are seeking tenacious candidates with a passion for Tesla’s mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and/or support development of utility-scale storage assets in key North American markets
  • Early-stage diligence on potential sites/projects to acquire;Development and communication of key project risks
  • Financial analysis of project economics
  • Negotiation and contracting for project acquisitions
  • Coordination across internal and external stakeholders to meet key milestones (e.g. interconnection, permitting, land acquisition)
  • Development of a transition plan for construction and ongoing management of the projects
  • Implementation and refinement of internal development processes

What You’ll Bring

  • 3+ years of prior utility-scale storage or renewable energy development and/or acquisition experience, including hands-on negotiation experience
  • Familiarity with wholesale energy markets and project development differences, challenges and opportunities between markets, including WECC, PJM, SPP, MISO. Experience in WECC a strong plus
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with external stakeholders e.g., partners, local communities, authorities, and regulators
  • Strong network across the North American storage and renewable industry
  • Familiarity with all stages of project development, from greenfield to COD
  • Understanding of financial modeling and critical inputs impacting project economic

    Expected Compensation
    $76,000 – $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
