The Department of Emergency Medicine, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a Contingent term appointment at the Assistant-Professor level.

Qualifications include an MD, a specialist certificate in Emergency Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. Graduate training Masters level or higher, and a minimum of two years of research and/or fellowship training is also required.

Applicants must present an established research agenda and strong evidence of scholarship in health equity in emergency medicine/acute care settings, and a strong publication record. Applicants must show evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision, leadership in health equity, and evidence of established academic engagement in professional and other communities.

The Department of Emergency Medicine is recruiting an emergency medicine clinician-scientist to lead a research program in health equity. The position will have 40% protected time for research, the remainder will include clinical service (45%), service (10%), and education (5%). Priority areas could include: (1) equity in ED access and throughput (wait times, LWBS, hallway care); (2) disparities in time-sensitive emergency pathways (e.g., stroke, sepsis, ACS, trauma); (3)Indigenous emergency care equity through culturally safe, co-designed models; (4) equitable mental health and addictions crisis care (including safer transition and community linkage); (5) housing insecurity and social need interventions embedded in ED care and discharge planning; (6) digital health and AI “equity by design” (bias evaluation, access, unintended harms), and/or (7) building an equity-focused learning health system using real-time measurement, dashboards, iterative QI to close the gaps in care and outcomes. The Health Equity Clinician Scientist may leverage comprehensive administrative and clinical data from our Provincial EPIC-based Connect Care Electronic Medical Record.
