Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Electrical & Control Tech’n/Technologist Trainee.The Electrical & Control Technician/Technologist Trainee Program at OPG is four years long and combines classroom instruction, field training, and on-the-job experience. Trainees must successfully pass several classroom assessment exams and a final exam to qualify as a fully certified Electrical & Control Technician/Technologist.Once qualified, The Electrical & Control Technician/Technologist will install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical and control systems at OPG’s renewable energy facilities. Their responsibilities include ensuring reliable operation of automation, protection, and instrumentation systems, supporting system upgrades, and optimizing plant performance for safe and efficient renewable energy production.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical equipment in generating stations, including preventative and corrective actions.
• Operate precision machines and tools for fabrication, repair, and maintenance tasks.
• Perform equipment measurements (noise, balancing, vibration) and testing according to ASME standards.
• Conduct non-destructive examinations/testing (NDE/NDT Level 1) on major and auxiliary equipment.
• Coordinate large projects for new system installations or technology upgrades, ensuring quality assurance.
• Provide technical support, develop solutions, and prepare/modify procedures and standards.
• Create mechanical and civil design sketches, drawings, and bills of material; maintain documentation.
• Ensure health and safety compliance for self and others, following established procedures and developing technical solutions as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus a 2 year college diploma in a related field of study.*
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and travel for training and field assignments, including occasional overnight stays.
• Strong ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks efficiently.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team.
• Good judgment and problem-solving abilities.
• Positive, professional demeanor
• Valid G Driver’s License in good standing.

*Relevant Field of Education includes: Instrumentation Tech/Technologist; Electrical Tech/Technologist; Electronics Tech/Technologist; Electromechanical Engineering Technology.The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.All Trainees are required to register with the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD).
