We actively work towards creating a campus community free of sexual violence and operate from a feminist, anti-oppressive, intersectional, trauma-informed, and person-centred framework. We believe all survivors and the experiences of all individuals who have faced sexual or gender-based violence.All services are free of charge and available to people of all genders, sexualities and backgrounds.PositionReporting to the future team director or manager of the Sexual Assault Centre (SAC), the Education Program Coordinator is accountable for the delivery of programming that promotes student engagement, student retention, and wellness in members of the University community who have experienced sexual assault or abuse, relationship violence, sexual harassment, stalking, and other experiences of sexual violence.The Education Coordinator is responsible for the operations of the Education Program at the SAC. This includes both developing and facilitating multi-modal anti-sexual violence educational programming, as well as overseeing the peer education provided by the Education (ED) Volunteers. The Education Program Coordinator is tasked with creating, evaluating, and facilitating anti-sexual violence education and prevention content delivered to all members of the U of A community. This includes the design and implementation of various long-form online courses offered by the SAC, as well as the development and delivery of interactive workshops on a variety of complex and highly sensitive subjects.As necessary, they further advise members of the University community on matters relating to sexual & relationship violence prevention and response in order to help ensure compliance with the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy. The Education Program Coordinator is also responsible for helping to promote student engagement and fostering social responsibility by managing the Education Volunteer Program and supervising individual Education Volunteers, all of whom are current students or recent alum from the U of A.In this capacity, they will recruit, interview, train, and mentor a team of 7-12 Education Volunteers on an annual basis. Further, the Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the creation and maintenance of procedural documents related to the overall functioning of the Education Volunteer Program.Duties
- Designs (or revises) and implements various long-form online courses offered by the SAC using institutional course design platforms.
- Develops and revises interactive anti-sexual violence education presentations for the University community, based on current research and evaluation feedback.
- Facilitates anti-sexual violence education presentations, both online and in-person, to the University community.
- Recruits and facilitates specialized professional development workshops for University staff and faculty, particularly to help ensure compliance with University policies and procedures (e.g.Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy)
- Accountable for the provision of effective peer-facilitated anti-sexual violence education provided by 7-12 Education Volunteers
- Supervises the facilitation of anti-sexual violence workshops provided by Education Volunteers through regular workshop debriefs, as well as formal and informal evaluation processes.
- Trains, mentors, and supervises Education Volunteers in their role and to ensure their well-being and mitigate the impact of working with sensitive and potentially difficult topics.
- Maintains knowledge of essential elements of trauma-informed crisis-intervention support.
- Engages in promotion and outreach to community stakeholders to raise awareness of, and secure participation in, anti-sexual violence educational offerings.
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a related field and completion of a comprehensive sexual violence crisis intervention support training program are required; consideration may also be given to other combinations of education and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of anti-sexual violence advocacy, sexual and gender-based violence response and prevention, facilitation, crisis intervention support, and suicide intervention.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including but not limited to individuals who are LGBTQ2SIA+, racialized, experiencing disabilities, and/or navigating other intersections of socially marginalized identities.
Preferred Qualifications
- High level of critical thinking, analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to deal with diverse issues, multi-task, and prioritize.
- Experience supervising and mentoring a team of volunteers.
- Program planning, implementation, and evaluation skills.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with individuals of various backgrounds and experiences, including administrators, faculty, professionals, students, and community members.
- Strong knowledge of university environment and student life, including relevant policies and procedures (e.g. the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Policy and Procedure; the Discrimination, Harassment, and Duty to Accommodation Policy and Procedures; the Helping Individuals at Risk Policy and Procedure; the Student Conduct Policy; staff and faculty collective agreements; FOIPP; etc.).
- Knowledge of a wide variety of resources on campus and in the community.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills including formal facilitation experience.
- Ability to effectively communicate sensitive material.
- Knowledge of best practices related to adult education and curriculum design, experience creating and implementing effective online educational materials an asset.
