Job DescriptionGeneral Summary:The Director, Commercial Excellence, International is a member of the Global Insights, Analytics & Commercial Operations (GIACO) International Leadership Team, based in Vertex’s International HQ in London, Paddington. The position is responsible for leading the International Commercial Excellence Team, providing strategic & operational business partnership and delivering commercial excellence initiatives for all in-line products for field teams across all countries in the International region. This individual leads a team of employees, which may include contractors and vendors, coordinating these resources closely within the department and cross functionally to deliver against commercial excellence needs to drive performance goals. This role reports to the International Senior Director of GIACO and is based in Vertex’s regional office in London and will work in close partnership with colleagues based in International HQ, regional and local teams.. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Member of the GIACO International Leadership Team
- Sets direction for the role of Commercial Excellence in day-to-day program operations, driving continuous innovation and building new commercial excellence capabilities for future product launches.
- Manages commercial excellence project portfolio including external budget, with a focus on initiatives core to departmental goals
- Delivers core commercial excellence programs for country field teams including Strategic Account Planning, Field Force KPI’s & metrics, Sales Force Incentives, supporting go-to-market models including sales force sizing, customer data management and CRM.
- Drives embedding of commercial excellence initiatives and continuous improvement in countries through close partnership with stakeholders
- Provides leadership to employees and contractors/vendors, ensuring the team is clear on priorities, coached to exceptional performance, and can collaborate exceptionally well with cross functional partners
- Builds close working relationships with broad network of stakeholders including senior leaders across Country, International and Global teams.
- Works in close partnership with Data, Technology & Engineering (DTE) on CRM and other field force related tools & systems
- Champions appropriate behaviours and continuously compliant environment; role models integrity & ethics

- Deep knowledge and experience across a wide variety of commercial/field-force excellence areas
- Ability to communicate and influence across all levels of the organization
- Ability to anticipate opportunities and challenges and thus proactively supporting & shaping commercial excellence strategy for International while having a strong execution mindset
- Change Agent – ability to drive and shape change management initiatives
- Ability to manage complexity with increasing number of launches and new therapeutic areas – capability to distill essence
- Strong analytical mind-set: demonstrated analytical approach to understand the impact of the way data and reporting is interpreted and utilized for decision making.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment; focus on multi-tasking and self-prioritized workload.
- Innovative and flexible approach – thrive to find solutions outside the box.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – fluent in verbal and written English.
- Able to develop rapport and credibility with key stakeholders including senior leadership in INTL and comfortable leading without authority across functions and geographies.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage complex projects that require collaboration across functional and geographic areas.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline requires
- Typically requires significant experience in Pharma/Biotechnology sector
