Summary:

The Director of Environmental Services at UNC Health Lenoir is a key leadership role responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing all aspects of the Environmental Services (EVS) department. This position ensures a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff, in compliance with healthcare standards and regulatory requirements and maintains a high level of focus that drives patient satisfaction. The Director collaborates with hospital leadership to support the mission, vision, and values of UNC Health Lenoir.

Responsibilities:

* Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures for the Environmental Services department to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and infection prevention throughout the hospital.

* Lead, supervise, and evaluate Environmental Services staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.

* Manage departmental budgets, cost controls, budget variances, supply inventory, and vendor relationships to optimize resource utilization and maintain compliance with hospital guidelines.

* Coordinate with Infection Prevention, Nursing, Facilities, and other departments to ensure that EVS operations support patient care and hospital objectives.

* Conduct regular inspections and quality audits to maintain compliance with The Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, and other regulatory agency standards.

* Oversee the response to emergencies, such as infection outbreaks, hazardous spills, or weather-related events, ensuring environmental safety and continuity of care.

* Champion sustainability and waste management initiatives to reduce the hospital’s environmental impact.

* Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, and recommendations to hospital leadership regarding departmental performance and opportunities for improvement.

* Foster a culture of customer service, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the department

    Other information:

    education

    Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred, or equivalent experience.

    * EXPERIENCE

    o Minimum of 5 years’ experience as Assistant Manager or Manager

    o Previous Director experience preferred.

    * LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

    o OSHA 10 Hour General Industry Safety and Health within 6 months of employment

    * OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    o Proficient use of Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Outlook

    o Outstanding interpersonal and communications (Verbal & written)

    o Ability to analyze data

    o Project management experience and strong financial acumen

    * WORK ENVIRONMENT

    o Occasional exposure to housekeeping cleaning agents/chemicals. Potential exposure to TB and/or bloodborne pathogens. May experience interruptions in workflow due to varying and unpredictable situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Handles absentee replacements on short notice with occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. Handles emergency or crisis situations.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

      Extended sitting, walking, bending, reaching, with some lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
