If you have a passion for performance, value a collegial and collaborative culture, and approach work with the highest integrity, invest your career here.Job DescriptionReporting to the Managing Director, Data Platforms, the Director, Reference, Total Fund Management and Risk, Data Platforms leads the design and implementation of CPP Investments’ data platforms, focusing on reference data management, total fund management, and risk analytics. In this role, you will lead a team of data engineers to build and operate high-quality reference data products across domains like Party, Security, Corporate Actions, and Pricing, ensuring stringent SLAs and fostering continuous improvement and engineering excellence.You’ll be accountable for designing and implementing the end-to-end data platform needs from managing foundational processing and data storage, to building and maintaining scalable pipelines, to developing analytical tools, and enterprise reporting applications to support various usecases.Key responsibilities include:
- Provide technical oversight to a team of diverse data engineers/technologists to drive design and implementation of transformational data initiatives, plan team activities and priorities, provide coaching to technical aspect of work.
- Applies knowledge, leadership experience and be the data engineering technical leader to drive design and implement appropriate data architectures, infrastructure, data ingestion pipelines and enablement tools, processes, and controls to meet business needs and to help team to scale.
- Seeks and incorporates diverse perspectives to guide the team to resolve complex multi-dimensional problems and enhance overall business process or program value
- Drive team engagement, performance management, provide feedback and opportunities to help team members grow and achieve their professional development goals.
- Work collaboratively with business stakeholders, senior IT management, Data Engineering Teams, Data Architecture, Data solutions, and Data Operations
- Experience in hiring, organizing, and motivating teams and directing multiple priorities simultaneously serving multiple stakeholders
- Build clean software and systems abstractions, and understand that modular, reusable components are key to manageably supporting thousands of pipelines and beyond as we scale.
- Work cross-functionally: with upstream teams to guide and consult them on how to structure their data to expose good data contracts, and with downstream including data consumers and data teams to expose well-designed and well-documented data models and metrics.
- Promote an Engineering Excellence culture within the team to mature Product craftsmanship, Product Reliability, increase Customer satisfaction and improve Developer experience.
- Evaluate emerging tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, and mentoring other members of the engineering community
- Act as a role model, demonstrating the CPP Investments values, providing clear management support and development to the team, and following all CPP Investments people processes.
QualificationsIf you possess the following, we’d like to hear from you:
- University degree in Engineering or Computer Science preferred.
- 8+ years’ experience in technology with experience in architecture/engineering
- Hands-on experience with Airflow, EMR, PySpark, S3, Lambda, IAM, Glue, DMS, Iceberg, Hudi, AWS Glue DQ, Great Expectations, Athena, LakeFormation, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail
- Strong understanding of modern data concepts: Lakehouse, Data Mesh, and Data Products
- Experience in data modeling, data architecture, data engineering, data analysis and familiarity with ETL tools, data warehousing & big data architecture and business intelligence reporting/analytics.
- Must have experience in data modeling, data visualization design and development including legacy ETL and modern ELT constructs and BI tools like AWS Quicksight, Tableau, etc.
- Experience with DataOps and various continuous delivery practices to deploy, support and operate data pipelines
- Strong knowledge of software development best practices and patterns.
- Demonstrate strong facilitation, communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills.
