Faculty of Education

Situated in the Faculty of Education, BU CARES connects Indigenous organizations, rural communities, community groups, students, school divisions, government agencies and scholars, with meaningful research opportunities to answer some of the most pressing questions in Education. Current research priorities include Indigenous Education, Anti-Racism Education, Eco-Justice, Mental Health & Well-Being, Digital Innovation and Education Technology.

Qualifications and Skills Required

Ph. D. preferred; Masters in Education or a related field required; at least five years of relevant experience in Indigenous or rural community-based research with a demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and environmental sustainability. Deep understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, educational systems, and diverse worldviews, with the ability to lead initiatives in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

Evidence of strong relational, interpersonal, administrative, communication, and networking skills. Experience in some or all of the following areas: developing and maintaining professional networks and relationships with Indigenous and community-based organizations; collaborative and community engaged research; working with research teams and graduate students; record of academic publications; knowledge and experience in developing funding proposals and demonstrated success in securing external research grants.

Duties include:
• Provide leadership and direction to facilitate the day-to-day activities of the Centre.
• Facilitate long-range planning for the Centre with key partners.
• Develop and manage the Centre’s budget.
• Negotiate agreements with external funders and partners to ensure the sustainability of the Centre.
• Cultivate new sources of revenue for Centre activities.
• Hire and provide direction to staff and project personnel to undertake Centre activities.
• Maintain effective communication between the Centre and all programs and departments within the
• Faculty of Education, Faculties/Schools, and other relevant units on campus.
• Network with other universities, school divisions, educational authorities, relevant provincial and federal government ministries, public sector research groups, and policy and development agencies
• Work with faculty to develop, coordinate, and submit funding proposals to external funding bodies.
• Mentor new faculty and graduate students in the area of community-based research.
• Facilitate the dissemination of the Centre’s research in innovative ways.
• Continue to enhance the Centre’s digital presence and reach.
Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
