This is a o ne-year contract and the position is based in Vancouver.
Your role
We are seeking a creative, diligent and resourceful associate producer to elevate journalism across all of Radio-Canada Colombie-Britannique’s digital platforms.
Working under the supervision of the digital producer, you will be responsible for posting daily content primarily for the web page, Info app and our YouTube channel. You will also apply strategies to amplify our content’s reach and engagement in the digital space.
You will work closely with station teams to maximize newsgathering across all platforms and increase the web and social media reach of our productions.
You are innovative by nature and thrive in a team and collaborative environment. We are looking for someone who thinks visually and critically, with excellent editorial skills, and who has a strong understanding of how to connect with different audiences, wherever they might be.
You will have a firm grip of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and will understand the importance of providing accurate, relevant information. You know how to strike a balance between creating engaging experiences while producing work that tackles important, complex issues clearly and concisely.
What you do:
Provide support to the digital producer and other team members.
Select and post digital audio clips.
Write and post companion content for radio.
Write and lay out web articles.
Post videos on YouTube.
Update our databases daily.
Upload and check the quality of videos posted to the station’s website and other digital properties.
Work with videographers and editors, radio shows, the Téléjournal Colombie-Britannique team and newsroom staff to promote and repurpose content.
Oversee the visual design of content using Canva.
Monitor incoming visual content from different CBC/Radio-Canada units to assess how it can be used locally.
Be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on the news cycle and available resources.
Collaborate with other team members to create digital content such as explainers.
Keep abreast of the latest trends in video storytelling.
You will also have the opportunity to pitch ideas for digital content and formats, including innovative story treatments. You may be asked to present this multiplatform content on air. You know that creating effective content for the web and social media requires a good grasp of storytelling techniques on those platforms.
What you bring:
University degree or a relevant combination of education/experience
Three (3) years’ directly related experience
Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills, with great attention to detail
Excellent editorial judgment and ability to identify engaging stories with strong potential
Ability to work well in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Strong interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work under deadline pressure with multiple priorities while interacting with different teams across the organization
A demonstrated commitment to inclusion and diversity in your work
Knowledge of English
Familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices
Comfort with Avid, Adobe Premiere, Rush, After Effects or similar image editing software is an asset
Familiarity with web analytics is an asset
Familiarity with CBC/Radio-Canada digital production tools (Scoop, Picto, Transit, Media Central, Medianet, Dalet) is an asset
Photography and video gathering skills is an asset
Audio and video editing skills is an asset
