Deckhand Educator

BaySail is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates a traditional tall ship Appledore IV that sails through the Great Lakes. Our mission is to cultivate a deep appreciation for the Great Lakes by creating environmental awareness, preserving maritime traditions, and inspiring environmental stewardship.

We are hiring deckhand educators for the season! We do STEM field trips with students and a Windward Bound sail training program with high school students. This is a great organization for folks looking for outdoor jobs, and in the environmental education realm. Our program is a mixture of daysails, education, and transiting through the Great Lakes. 

Days are split between maintaining the ship, school field trips, or public daysails. Voyaging involves sailing the ship 24 hours a day to different ports in the Great Lakes. We voyage to travel with students for our youth sail training program or for Tall Ship Festivals in other ports. All educators will be taught education material and trained in all duties as a deckhand. This position will equip you with all the knowledge you need to safely work at sea.

Deckhand educators are provided room and board, salary starts at $450/week for deckhands with no experience. Position starts April 1-June and ends at the end of Aug-October.
