The RoleData Manager at SO ENERGYThe Data Manager will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction of our data platform and managing a team of data professionals, including data engineers and analysts. You will lead the development and execution of our target architectural data roadmap. Leveraging your technical and analytical expertise, you will guide the team in delivering scalable, high-quality data solutions and insights. This role requires a balance of technical leadership, strategic thinking, and people management to drive the delivery of trustworthy and reliable data from our data platform.Reporting into our Nethin Maharaj, Business Intelligence Manager 👋What you’ll be getting up to:
- Recruitment & Talent Building: Support hiring efforts to attract and onboard top talent into the data function.
- Team Leadership & Development: Manage a team of data engineers and analysts, providing mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Data Platform Roadmap: Define and own the data platform roadmap, ensuring it supports the business’s strategic goals and data-driven ambitions.
- Data Delivery & Insights: Oversee the development of data pipelines, reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
- Technical & Analytical Guidance: Act as the subject matter expert, providing guidance on best practices in data architecture, analytics, and reporting.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with product, operations, finance, and other teams to translate business needs into actionable technical solutions and insights.
- Initiative Oversight: Manage the delivery of multiple data initiatives, ensuring projects are completed on time and deliver measurable value.
- Innovation & Efficiency: Champion continuous improvement in data processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance team productivity and outcomes.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, models, and systems to promote knowledge sharing across the team.
This role will be a great fit if:Technical Skills
- Proven experience in defining data architecture and strategic roadmaps for both data engineering and analytics functions.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP): Deep hands-on experience in GCP services stack.
- Expertise in designing insightful dashboards, reports, and data models using BI tools like Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
- Strong command of Python, SQL, and other relevant languages, with experience in building and optimizing batch and real-time data pipelines.
- Deep understanding of data governance principles, including data quality, security, and regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, ISO).
- Experience in managing diverse data teams, delivering impactful projects, and fostering a data-driven culture.
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes, version control (e.g., Git), and automation tools like Terraform or Cloud Composer.
- Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, with experience in running sprints, retrospectives, and backlog grooming sessions.
- Hands-on experience using Jira for task and project management, including creating dashboards, tracking team progress, and prioritizing work effectively.
