This is an opportunity to provide information for developing best management practices toward sustaining recreational fishing opportunities.
We are seeking a candidate to conduct angler creel surveys to assess catch and harvest of warmwater fishes, primarily Walleye.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this position will:
Conduct creel surveys on lakes and reservoirs to gather information on angler usage and harvest.
Assist Regional Fish Program Staff.
Working Conditions:
Work setting: Work settings will include onboard creel boats, electrofishing boats, gill net boats, recreational fishing docks, laboratories, and office environments. Ability to fully and effectively complete assigned duties and tasks while on the water, possibly during inclement weather. Assigned work will be conducted on slippery/uneven/steep/moving decks and docks. Climbing steps/ladders, frequent and repetitive lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted over a 10-hour work shift, communicating on a CB/VHF radio, and hearing/communicating over loud motors and other vessel equipment is necessary to successfully perform all tasks. This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments.
Schedule: Schedule is variable. Typically, work will consist of an 8- to 9-hour day, 40 hours per week depending on the creel schedule. Workload demands may require work outside the assigned work hours and adjustment of work schedules.
Travel requirements: Daily travel in WDFW issued vehicles, up to 2,500 miles per month.
Customer Interactions: Extensive work with the public conducting interviews and informing anglers of rules and regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Option 1: Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science, and two (2) years of experience as a Scientific Technician.
Option 2: Graduation from high school or GED including one year of high school science, and two (2) years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist.
Please note: College course work involving major study in biology, zoology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or closely allied field will substitute year-for-year for experience, provided the course work includes at least 6 semester or 9 quarter hours of natural science classes.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid driver’s license.
Special Requirements/Conditions of Employment:
Successful completion of agency training and/or certification for assigned activities included Motor Operations Training Course.
