This isn’t just another Underwriting role – it’s your chance to join a brand-new team that’s building a new product proposition from scratch.The Underwriting Manager position offers the chance to build an entire underwriting journey for our new consumer product, covering the writing of SOPs, testing of systems, and preparing a team for launch, playing a pivotal role in shaping our product proposition.In this role, you’ll take the lead on getting us ready to make decisions on our first applicants, with influence over writing credit policy and inputting into the overall acquisition strategy to make our product launch successful, as well as keeping us within our Risk Appetite. As the product evolves, so too will your responsibilities, allowing you to make a significant and lasting impact.If you are an experienced underwriter but also enjoy working on project delivery, and don’t mind getting stuck into the nitty-gritty, this is your playground. You’ll need to be customer-focused, razor-sharp on details, and methodical in your approach – all to help us make the best calls for both the Bank and our customers.
If you’re eager to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and are ready to take ownership, drive results, and grow alongside a product that’s set to make waves, this role is for you.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:· Supporting the Head of Lending Decisioning on the manual underwriting and referral journey for our new consumer lending product· Supporting the Head of Lending Decisioning in building the processes and procedures that will allow for a great customer journey, constantly improving it once launched· Supporting new projects in other areas, such as Asset Finance, as the Banks’ product set expands over time· Working with the rest of the decisioning team to build a feedback loop from application reviews to acquisition strategies· Once the new product has launched, under a delegated mandate, within defined SLAs and demonstrating sound balance between risk and commercial needs, deliver underwriting of new business in line with the bank’s risk appetite and credit policy, providing the rationale for decisions made· Maximising efficiency through working with Consumer colleagues to ensure that it is clear what information is required to properly assess each credit submission, ensuring that customers’ expectations can be met and exceeded. Make sure that requests for further information on credit submissions are proportionate and relevant· Supporting the Consumer Lending Committee through providing analysis and recommendations for improvements to the underwriting process and customer journey· Supporting and driving continuous improvement through identifying and implementing ways to reduce / eliminate manual processes, minimise handoffs and increase levels of automated decisioning· Contributing to the development of the portfolio strategy for existing and new lending products.· Continued professional development and external networking to stay up to date with changes to the industry· Leading a small team, that could grow over time, setting the highest standards of decision making, effectiveness and efficiency· Deputising for the Head of Lending Decisioning as requiredJOB REQUIREMENTSThe Underwriting Manager plays a critical role in helping us build our new Consumer Lending proposition (pending authorisation). You will be at the heart of an exciting new period in the Bank’s development, helping to build a totally new lending journey including policies, processes and procedures, getting us prepared to underwrite business when the product launches. You will lead on the Underwriting journey and have a huge contribution to the success of the new proposition.Experience· Underwriting experience in consumer lending or similar with exposure to one or more of the following areas: retail finance, motor finance, high value secured lending, leasing, asset finance, leisure finance or agricultural finance· Experience of leading an Underwriting team· Skilled at owning and writing SOPs that accurately lay out an efficient underwriting process· Ability to work in a project environment that requires you to get involved wherever there is a need· Ability to reflect on past decisions made and learn, with the confidence to then drive change to processes and approaches· Cross-functional teamwork: ability to work in teams comprised of individuals from multiple functional backgrounds to achieve business results· Ability to deliver against deadlines, articulate outputs from own analysis, recommendations and basis of decisions clearly and to a varied audience including the Senior Leadership Team and Board· Knowledge or experience of working in a collections function would be advantageousBenefits Manchester
