Course: RUSS 210 001 Elementary Russian Language 1 (3 credits)

Teaching Schedule: Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays: 2:35-3:25 pm

Course Start/End Date: August 27, 2025/December 3, 2025

Location: SH 680 365

Course details: Reading, grammar, translation, oral practice.

Salary (current rate for 3-credit course teaching): $11,090

Salary (rate for 3-credit course teaching as of September 1st, 2025): $11,479

Position Summary:

A Course Lecturer assignment includes all or part of the following teaching activities:

a) preparation of the Course and Course plan;

b) delivery of the Course;

c) evaluation of students;

d) submitting to the University a report on student attendance and student grades;

e) supervision of Teaching Assistants or any other teaching support staff;

f) upon request, review of their students’ grades;

g) meeting with students, being available to answer questions and give advice concerning Course content and requirements;

Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures: Instructors of language courses must adhere to the guidelines set by the Language Program Directors (LPDs). In assuming a language position, the successful applicant agrees to the guidelines set by LPDs and to (1) teach the scheduled classes; (2) use the prescribed course materials and follow the class plan and test schedule established in the syllabus; (3) collaborate with colleagues to prepare in-class tests, quizzes, exercises, and final exams; (4) invigilate any scheduled in-class exams, final exams, and oral-exams; and (5) attend scheduled meetings with the Language Program Director.

Required Application Documents: Applicants must submit the following documents: 1. an updated CV, 2. a letter of introduction stating their teaching philosophy and how they would approach the teaching of a particular course

, and 3. a syllabus for the course which must follow the template provided by the McGill course outline guidelines

Application deadline: June 13th, 2025, midnight

Teaching Qualification Requirements: M.A. or Ph.D. in Russian or registered in the Russian Studies graduate program at McGill. Native or near native fluency in Russian required.

Experience: A minimum of two semesters as instructor of a course at a similar level or to be a graduate student in Russian Studies in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University. Course lecturers must demonstrate a familiarity with the course materials used in Russian Studies language courses.
