General Purpose
The department of Student Experience is committed to supporting all students at the University of Guelph. Reporting to the Cultural Diversity Advisor, the Coordinator, Black Student Success is a strategically important position for the University of Guelph that directly contributes to the development and the persistence of Black learners. Cultural Diversity Services provides advising, mentoring, student advocacy, social, cultural, and transition programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Coordinator supports the orientation, transition, and retention of Black students through pre-arrival, orientation, early intervention, transition, and retention programming. This work involves designing, implementing, and assessing events, presentations, workshops, and programming initiatives both in-person and online. The Coordinator liaises regularly with individuals and groups both on and off-campus to develop collaborative programs and events, including programs to maintain and strengthen identity and cultural awareness.
Through advisement and coaching the Coordinator supports the persistence and success of Black students. The position designs, oversees, and assesses leadership, community, and mentorship opportunities, both individually and in groups, to support student transition and success.
The Coordinator represents the department at a range of institutional events, meetings, and programs, and contributes to the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of a variety of areas within Cultural Diversity, including participation in the development and implementation of actions plans and associated budgets for the unit.

The target hiring salary for this position is minimum and up to 96% of midpoint for the salary grade.
