This is a UHCW and NHS England – Midlands funded CL post in Cardiology. Funding for post is available.You should have evidence of achievement GMC /PMETB Foundation level competence or equivalent and relevant clinical experience.This is an exciting opportunity to combine clinical training with a programme of postdoctoral research, providing 50% clinical and 50% academic time.The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this post has the required educational and staffing approval and will come with an Academic National Training Number [NTN(A)] as part of the West Midlands rotation in Cardiology.The ACL will have regular supervision meetings with their clinical academic supervisor.The ACL will spend 50% of their time in full-time academic activity each year, to enable them to complete an intense period of research or educational activity to support grant application.They will establish an independent research portfolio, by applying successfully for external grants, publishing in peer review journals and disseminating results at national and international conferences.They will be employed by the University of Warwick and hold Honorary Contracts with University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW).In addition, they will work collaboratively with colleagues to build a strong research portfolio in WMS, UHCW and the wider University.They will be expected to be actively involved in the postgraduate teaching programme and contribute to the supervision of Academic Clinical Fellows and PhD students; providing academic mentoring and advice for colleagues working in the NHS./*generated inline style */
About YouYou will have evidence of academic achievement, with publications in your field, and will hold (or shortly hold) an MD or PhD in Research or equivalent.You will already hold an NTN, having undertaken some training at Specialty Registrar level.The post is therefore aimed at an individual of ST4 level or above.The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career, and in particular those who have already undertaken research and who now wish to continue undertaking research whilst pursuing further training.You should provide evidence in your application that you meet the criteria for the role.We will use a range of selection methods to measure your abilities in these areas including reviewing your online application, seeking references, inviting shortlisted candidates to interview and other forms of assessment action relevant to the post.For further information regarding the skills required for this role please see the personal specification section of the attached job description./*generated inline style */
About the DepartmentUniversity Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire provides tertiary cardiac services for just under million people in Coventry and Warwickshire.The department of Cardiology has expanded rapidly and is one of the busiest centres in the West Midlands region, performing complex pacing, PCI, TAVI, cardiac surgery and heart failure management.The department is research active with an established record of PhD and research supervison and active collaboration both nationally (e.g. Bart’s) and internationally (e.g. the Henri Mondor Hospital, Paris, and the University of Washington, Seattle).Research interests focus on improving the understanding and management of heart rhythm disorders (Ventricular Tachycardia) including mapping, ablation, and holistic care, and the spectrum of research ranges from ion channel, cellular, animal model, human tissue assays, computational modelling and technology appraisal.Established research partnerships are in place with industry including Medtronic, Cardiac Precision, Biosense Webster, and Abbott Medical which also provide excellent training opportunities and early access to new technologies.The institute for cardio-metabolic medicine is one of four institutes of research excellence established at UHCW with the aim of nurturing a new generation of scientists and transforming understanding and treatment of cardiovascular, metabolic diseases, and cardiology including cardiac arrhythmias, heart failure and obesity.Warwick Medical School is the home of the world-leading centre for mechanochemical cell biology which examines mechanobiology functions and their contribution to human pathologies including cardiac disorders.The Warwick Clinical Trials Unit has the largest NIHR funded portfolio in the UK, and Warwick Evidence is one of nine technology assessment report teams in the UK, undertaking reviews and synthesis on the clinical and cost-effectiveness of health care interventions for NIHR on behalf of policy makers including NICE./*generated inline style */
