Summary

Join the Movement for Climate Action as a Climate & Environment Advisor for the National Trust!

Are you passionate about Climate Action and committed to achieving Carbon Net Zero by 2030? We are looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and experienced Climate & Environment Adviser (CEA) to join our team and help us lead the way in sustainability and environmental actions.

What it’s like to work here

You’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, fundraisers, building surveyors and project managers, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen.

Your contractual place of work will be the National Trust office at Bristol. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you’ll be doing

As an integral part of the regional Consultancy Team, you will play a crucial role in embedding climate and environmental standards across the South West. You will be responsible for providing expert advice on managing carbon, climate change risks and impacts, water (including sewage systems), energy, waste, and natural resources. Your proactive approach will enable our properties to meet their carbon targets and adapt to climate change, ensuring compliance with the National Trust Climate and Environmental Management System (CEMS).

As well as your regional responsibilities, you will work across a specific patch, to include National Trust properties across Gloucestershire, North Somerset, parts of Wiltshire and Dorset, so having access to a vehicle and the ability to travel is essential.

This role will also be responsible for leading on the Reduction and Engagement part of the National Trust’s RACE (Reduction, Adaptation, Capture and Engagement) for Climate Action in the South West.

Key Responsibilities:

Expert Consultancy: Provide strategic advice on climate and environmental practices, ensuring our properties meet their carbon targets and adapt to climate change.

Innovative Partnerships: Forge and nurture partnerships that align with our sustainability goals, amplifying our impact and reach.

Empowering Education: Lead training programmes to elevate the skills and knowledge of our staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of environmental awareness.

Rigorous Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to environmental regulations and standards, mitigating risks and enhancing our sustainability credentials.

Pioneering Practices: Champion innovative and best practices in climate action, driving continuous improvement and excellence.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Substantial post qualification practical experience with a sound knowledge in all aspects of sustainability, including the management of carbon, energy, waste, natural resources, land use and buildings.
  • Demonstrable experience in collaboratively leading on climate and environmental risk management planning and procedures for others to implement
  • Experience in undertaking and commissioning research – embracing change and challenge
  • Inspirational and innovative consulting approaches and skills
  • The ability to communicate confidently and effectively to individuals or groups at all levels.
  • Experience in supporting operations work within an EMS such as ISO14001

The package

It’s important that our people reflect and represent the diversity of the communities and audiences we serve. We welcome and value difference, so when we say we’re for everyone, we want everyone to be welcome in our teams too.

  • Substantial pension scheme of up to 10% basic salary
  • Free entry to National Trust places for you, a guest and your children (under 18)
  • Rental deposit loan scheme
  • Season ticket loan
  • EV car lease scheme
  • Perks at work discounts such as gym memberships, shopping discount codes, cinema discounts
