One of the first urban jobshiringnearme.org Corps in the country, the San Jose jobshiringnearme.org Corps + Charter School was founded in 1987 to empower young adults aged 18 to 27 (“Corpsmembers”) to upskill themselves and advance their career in conservation and green spaces. Today, SJCC+CS continues to operate its 1-year-long paid workforce development program, while also functioning as a WASC-accredited charter high school, allowing those who have aged out of the traditional education system to earn their high school diploma.

position Summary:
The Corpsmember Development (CMD) Coordinator plays a key role in preparing Corpsmembers for careers in environmental conservation and green industries. This position will oversee a caseload of 30–50 while leading interactive trainings, coordinating certifications with partner organizations, and providing individualized career counseling.

The CMD Coordinator ensures curriculum reflects industry best practices, tracks training data, and organizes events that inspire exploration of sustainability-focused career paths. They work closely with external partners and internal teams to deliver impactful programming and maintain strong communication throughout the corpsmember experience.

Ideal candidates are organized, strong communicators, and passionate about mentoring young adults. Experience in training facilitation, environmental education, workforce development, or youth leadership is highly valued. Candidates with experience or education in natural resource management, conservation, and/or environmental science are preferred.

Job Duties:

  • Ensure each Corpsmember completes a training portfolio during their program year.
  • Conduct regular in-person check-ins to provide individualized career support and build rapport.
  • Lead and facilitate training sessions on orientation, safety (CPR/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens), environmental education, career readiness, leadership, and professional development.
  • Develop, proofread, and edit job training and educational curriculum for new initiatives, contracts, and grants.
  • Coordinate and supervise training activities with external partners, including scheduling certifications and educational opportunities.
  • Collect employment and post-secondary verification data, maintain training records, and prepare compliance reports.
  • Plan and organize tours, field trips, and speaker events to support career exploration.
  • Communicate with corpsmembers via email, phone, and Slack about training opportunities; maintain a master training calendar.
  • Order program supplies, track receipts, and serve as the administrative point of contact for training-related emails.
  • Provide post-program follow-up and connect corpsmembers to support services to remove barriers to career success.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • One of the following must apply:
    • High School Diploma or GED + 4 years of relevant work experience in program and training facilitation, leading workshops, and/or engaging youth
    • Associate’s degree in related field + 3 years of relevant work experience in program and training facilitation, leading workshops, and/or engaging youth
    • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, environmental studies, natural resources, or a related field + 2 years of relevant work experience in program and training facilitation, leading workshops, and/or engaging youth
  • Experience with and ability to engage with, motivate, encourage and support young adults from a wide variety of social, educational and economic backgrounds.
  • Passion for youth development, workforce development, education, conservation, climate change, social and racial justice, and/or related subjects.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with teams, build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and external partners, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Experience with and ability to engage with, motivate, encourage and support young adults from a wide variety of social, educational and economic backgrounds.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with experience planning and leading group workshops or trainings.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and stay calm under pressure.

Driving Record and Requirements: This position requires driving. If the position is offered and accepted, candidates must submit a copy of their DMV driver’s record, be at least 21 years of age, and have at least one year or driving experience. The candidate also must possess and continue to maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Medical Verification: State law requires all employees working with youth to provide medical verification of negative tuberculosis test results within the last year. Employees will also be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Background Check and Fingerprinting: Before hire, all employees must undergo Live Scan Fingerprinting as well as a comprehensive background check which includes employment, education, and criminal history.

Drug Screen: If the position is offered and accepted, candidates will be required to undergo and pass a 5-panel drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong preference for candidates with experience or education in natural resource management, conservation, and/or the environmental science field.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Prior work experience in the nonprofit sector
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Red Cross Instructor Certification
