Job Classification: Two options under consideration: Non-exempt, Full-Time or Part-Time (open to negotiation based on candidate availability, qualifications, and experience)

Your Role

The Baltimore County Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Organizer will serve as a Coalition for Smarter Growth representative in Baltimore County to win support for sustainable, equitable transit-accessible communities, providing on-the-ground presence and working under close supervision and in partnership with CSG’s Maryland Housing Advocacy Manager, an experienced grassroots organizer and policy expert. We will evaluate both full-time and part-time options depending upon the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and availability.

Key Responsibilities

The Baltimore County Transit Oriented Development (TOD) Organizer will report to CSG’s Maryland Housing Advocacy Manager. Examples of responsibilities include:

• Become familiar with land use, housing, and zoning issues in Baltimore County
• Read reports and summarize accurately
• Develop contacts, hold relational meetings, maintain relationships, and build a base of TOD supporters
• Attend public meetings and write and deliver well-crafted testimony
• Speak clearly and persuasively about smart growth and TOD
• Maintain frequent communications with and work under the guidance and leadership of your supervisor

• Speaking skills and ability to be an impressive and effective representative of CSG
• Written communication skills with the ability to draft clear and compelling testimony, policy papers, and messages
• Organizational skills, with attention to detail and deadlines
• Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, at varying stages of production
• Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative abilities, including the ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and work styles

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with public policy advocacy and/or grassroots organizing
• Connections to Baltimore County and experience with local officials and stakeholders ideal but not required
• Residence in or near Baltimore County and access to a car due to existing transit limitations in the county
• Night and weekend availability
• Social media/video editing skills
• Experience organizing and promoting events

Compensation

This position is a non-exempt / hourly position with benefits for employees who work at least 30 hours per week. Part-time employees receive minimal fringe benefits. The salary range for the Baltimore County Transit-Oriented Development Organizer is $30 – $34 per hour (equivalent to $62,400-$70,720 per year for full-time), commensurate with experience and demonstrated outcomes.

Office Location

This position will be hybrid with a preferred minimum of one day per week in CSG’s office in Washington, DC at 1350 I Street NW, Suite 425, Washington, DC 20005. This position will require travel within Baltimore County, with periodic meetings possible elsewhere in Maryland. Periodic evening and weekend work is required for meetings and events, and matched with reasonable flexibility during the week.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position will be completed in both an office environment and the outdoors for events like walking tours. Office work requires extended sitting or standing and the use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse, and occasional lifting of boxes (up to 30 pounds). Occasional walking tours involve physical activity and observance of safety protocols due to road traffic. Due to the public-facing nature of CSG’s mission and community events, employees may occasionally be photographed, filmed, or quoted for use in organization publications, promotional materials, social media, and website content.
