We create our award-winning Android app primarily in Kotlin using Android Studio. We’re focussed on providing a fast and stable experience to our users, and our Play Store rating of 4.7 stars is testament to that.Much of our code is openly available on GitHub, and some of our projects are widely used throughout the Open Source community. - Building and testing new features, improving and maintaining existing functionality with support from other developers. Our current codebase is about 90% Kotlin and 10% Java.
- Using Coroutines in Compose and working with Android Views and some legacy code, with support from other developers.
- Working in a strongly collaborative environment, including pair programming with other developers and working closely with designers, editorial and commercial colleagues.
- Contributing to team conversations and big decisions, we encourage everyone to voice their opinions and share ideas.
- Reviewing the code of other engineers to ensure we maintain our app’s high standard, with support from other developers as needed.
- Demonstrating your innovation day-to-day, as well as at our regular hack days and during 10% time.
About You
- You have prior experience building and supporting the deployment of Android applications.
- Prior experience and confidence with Kotlin and Java
- You aspire to be an expert in Android development, and you have a strong interest in growing your skills. You are keen to learn about what technologies are available to use and when to use them.
- You are creative, passionate and love technology. You may love the news, or you may want to reinvent it.
- Your interests go beyond just your team’s objectives; you are curious about where the organisation is moving as a whole. You take an interest in why we do things, and you’re able to focus on delivering value for your team.

- Engineering Managers and Head of Engineering: 3 days per week in the office
- All Software Developers/Engineers: 1 day per week in the office
