Assistant Professor (Teaching), Accounting

Applications are invited for a tenure track position in Accounting as an Assistant Professor (Teaching) in the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. The appointment start date is July 1, 2025.

The position requires evidence of teaching effectiveness or competency in teaching and learning. An awareness of how to apply scholarly approaches to teaching & learning practices, participation in reflective practice, and professional learning activities related to teaching and learning would be an asset.

Duties may include teaching in introductory and intermediate financial accounting and managerial accounting courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and some services related to student activities.

Faculty in the Accounting area at the Haskayne School of Business are engaged in a range of teaching across programs, including BComm, MBA, and Master of Management.
Eligibility
• Completion of a related degree is required;
• A CPA designation from Canada is required;
• A PhD in accounting or related field is desired;
• Experience teaching a variety of accounting courses at the post-secondary level;
• Experience in, or capability of, teaching both financial accounting and managerial accounting;
• A track record of effective and innovative pedagogy;
• Evidence of successful teamwork and a collegial approach to interacting with colleagues, students, and other stakeholders.

Expected Duties include:
• Teaching core courses (e.g., Introductory Financial and Managerial Accounting) and elective courses in accounting (e.g., cost accounting, audit, tax);
• Possibility of coordinating a core course;
• Continuous professional development and contributions to the community of practice in teaching and learning;
• Teaching ‘eight’ regular (half-credit) courses in the Haskayne School of Business (in person);
• Actively participating in projects and/or committees related to teaching and learning curriculum development and implementation;
• Participating in scholarship of teaching and learning;
• Service within Haskayne.
