The School of Political Studies of the University of Ottawa wishes to fill one (1) regular tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate in its Canadian, Quebec and Indigenous Politics profile.

Candidates will need to demonstrate an expertise, commitment to a research program and a record of refereed publications in Canadian, Quebec and/or Indigenous Politics in Canada. The following areas of specialization will be an asset: language regimes, linguistic minorities, gender, sexual diversity, political institutions, Indigenous politics and political communication.

The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs.

Duties:

  • Research activities and refereed publications
  • Teaching courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Political science
  • Supervision of graduate students
  • Commitment to participating in the educational and administrative activities of the unit and the Faculty
  • Performing any other activity provided for in the collective agreement

Required skills:

  • PhD in Political science, with specialization in Canadian, Quebec and/or Indigenous politics or a related field
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach the introductory Canadian Politics course as well as the core seminar in Canadian, Quebec and Indigenous Politics upon hiring
  • Quality of the teaching dossier
  • Quality of the record of publications and the research program

Bilingualism:

The University of Ottawa is proud of its more than 160-year tradition of bilingualism. All faculty members in the Faculty of Social Sciences must demonstrate active bilingualism before being granted tenure. The working language at the School of Political Studies is French.

Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language.

Terms: Tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $89,622 (as of May 1, 2023).

Starting Date: July 1, 2024
